Dental Crowns in Plano, TX

Do your teeth make you feel self-conscious about your smile? If some of your teeth are cracked, fractured, excessively decayed or worn, then maybe you have good reason to be a little hesitant about showing others your smile. At Preston Bend Dental, Plano dentist Dr. Madhav can restore the beautiful appearance and functionality of a tooth with a porcelain crown. Built to fit tightly over a damaged or decayed tooth, a crown provides protection from further damage, makes the tooth look attractive again, and even helps to preserve the correct alignment of your jaw.

Why Is A Porcelain Dental Crown Best?

When you picture a crown, you may visualize a white top with a black line running along the gum. These types of crowns are made of porcelain that is fused to metal—hence the black line. Nowadays, however, dental labs are capable of creating all-porcelain crowns that are just as strong as those that incorporate a metal base. Moreover, with our color-matching system, Dr. Madhav can specify a shade of porcelain that precisely blends with the natural color of your other teeth. And because there is not metal, you never have to worry about the tooth looking slightly darkened.

How Does The Plano Dentist Fit a Crown?

For most patients, Dr. Madhav can prepare a tooth, design the crown and place it over the course of just two appointments scheduled about two weeks apart. At the first appointment, we’ll reduce the size of the tooth by removing some of the structure along the top and sides. This is done to ensure the crown fits comfortably next to adjacent teeth and does not feel high when you bite down. A molded impression is then taken that our dental lab uses to create the crown that will give back your beautiful smile. In the meantime, Dr. Madhav will place a temporary acrylic crown that we make right here in the office. Although acrylic is sturdy, it’s not as strong as porcelain. Therefore, be aware when you eat and try to chew on the opposite side of your mouth.

The dental lab sends the permanent crown to our office, at which time you’ll return to have Dr. Madhav adhesively bond the restoration to your prepared tooth. With proper oral hygiene at home and regular checkups, your new porcelain crown will give you countless years of pleasure.
