Choose CEREC in Plano, TX for a Beautiful Valentine’s Day Smile

January 18, 2016

laughing woman with a beautiful smile thanks to CEREC in PlanoSevere tooth decay, dental trauma, and root canal infection have something in common other than your smile: dental crown restoration. In the past, it’s taken days, weeks, and sometimes months to restore a patient’s damaged smile with a dental crown. At Preston Bend Dental, we offer a fast, effective alternative. Using the CEREC system, our team is able to plan, manufacture, and place a crown during a single visit to our convenient Plano dental practice.

Traditional Crown Restoration Process

Patients who have decay or damage necessitating extensive restoration may need a dental crown to protect and restore affected teeth. The typical crown restoration process took at least two appointments to complete following an initial consultation to determine whether a dental crown was the best option. During a preparation appointment, the dentist prepares damaged teeth by removing decayed or damaged portions of the tooth, and preparing the remaining healthy structure to support a dental crown. Once the affected tooth is prepared, impressions are taken and sent to a dental lab where a custom restoration is created. In the meantime, patients wear a temporary restoration which is exchanged for the custom crown at the second appointment.

The CEREC Same Day Smile Restoration System

Similar to the traditional dental crown process, the CEREC system condenses the entire process into one office visit. CEREC stands for chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics, and the system makes it possible for dentists to design, mill, and place a dental crown, inlay, onlay, or other porcelain restoration in just one day. A patient’s tooth is prepared for the crown, and digital impressions are taken of the individual affected tooth and the patient’s entire bite. These digital impressions are sent directly to a state-of-the-art milling unit where a cube of dental-grade porcelain is milled to fit the prepared tooth. Finally, the restoration is placed using dental cement, and shaped to fit accurately into the patient’s bite allowing the dentist optimal precision and customization. Patients leave our office with a flawless smile.
